This book
details the
history development and operation of the Orphan Boy Mine from 1880 to
the present, in Central Colorado. This non-operating mine is located
near the Continental Divide and is also known as the Allan Emory Mine,
as shown on the USGS Montezuma topographic map. It is located at 12,000
feet in one
of Colorado's premier recreation areas, near some spectacular hiking,
bicycling, and back country skiing.
The book includes some incredible
unpublished 1940's family photographs of the mine and surrounding area,
as well as history and stories about the area.
This book
is an ideal resource
for hikers, and bikers using the Continental Divide trail. Hikers,
bicyclists and off-road enthusiasts can discover the past while enjoying
a day in Colorado's beautiful "back country". This book provides a
detailed glimpse into one of Colorado's most intriguing periods of
history.
